Today I unsubscribed from a weekly email list, releasing myself from the shackle which kept my mind prisoner to a never ending spiral of unpleasant thoughts. With each weekly installment I would read with disappointment as a community continued living in denial, making excuses for leaders who aren’t leading; turning a blind eye to the puppet master who makes them sing and dance.
There are many positive quotes and concepts that we can live by, to do our part to improve the world around us. Sometimes though we have to cut the cord and walk away for our own sanity, so that we can bounce back and do good for others who appreciate it. One of the hardest realizations I’ve come across in my life is that I can not help people who do not want to be helped. The problems can be clear as day, but if people are not bothered enough to do anything about it then there is nothing you can do to convince them otherwise. People will ultimately do what they want to do and not do what they do not want to do.
These may sound like the words of someone giving up. I see it as a choice to focus out from an endless pit and to focus in on other areas which truly want to improve and flourish.
